Assisting Individuals in Crisis |
 |
(aka Individual Crisis Intervention & Peer Support) Crisis intervention is NOT psychotherapy. Rather it is a specialized acute emergency behavioral health intervention that requires specialized training. As physical first-aid is to surgery, crisis intervention is to psychotherapy. Thus, crisis intervention is sometimes called "emotional first-aid." Crisis interventions are typically done individually (one-on-one) or in groups. This program is designed to teach participants the fundamentals of, and a specific protocol for, individual intervention. The audience for this class includes emergency services, military, and business/industrial peer support personnel without formal training in behavioral health, as well as behavioral health and school professionals who desire to increase their knowledge of individual (one-on-one) crisis intervention techniques. ($150; 13 Contact Hours)
Please note that this is a two-day class. The topics listed below will be covered over the course of two days.
(8:30 a.m - 4:30 p.m.) Registration: 8:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.

Protecting Our First Responders |
 |
Specifically tailored to Fire Service, EMS, Law Enforcement.
This 2.5 hours course is designed to be a pre-incident training course for emergency service personnel. In the aftermath of a critical incident, whether man-made or natural, stress reactions are the normal response of a healthy person to an abnormal situation. Emergency service personnel responding to critical incidents or disasters will see and experience events that may include witnessing or experiencing tragedy, death, serious injuries and performing their duties in threatening situations. These critical events have the potential to strain their usual coping skills. The physical and psychological well-being of those experiencing this stress, as well as their future ability to function through a prolonged response, will depend upon how they manage this stress. Pre-incident training will help prepare individuals to cope with critical incidents and the reactions that they may experience.
- As Emergency Services personnel, your united mission is to provide emergency services within your community to ensure public safety and resilience of every individual. In the aftermath of a critical incident, whether man-made or natural, stress reactions are the normal response of a healthy person to an abnormal situation. This course will help prepare you to cope with critical incidents and the reactions that you may experience.
Training can be scheduled at your department on a training night. Contact the office for additional information. 502-607-5781
